Trama e commenti: cinetecadelfriuli.org: «In epoca medievale, un cavaliere ed una damigella sono separati e poi riuniti da una serie di eventi soprannaturali, alcuni dei quali causati da una spada magica data al cavaliere, ed altri da un mistico calderone collocato nell’antro della sua nemesi, la strega.Approvato dal famoso illusionista John Nevil Maskelyne dell’Egyptian Hall di Londra, questo film – come molti altri tipi di magia – poteva piacere sia ai grandi che ai piccini. Meno film a trucchi che féerie, nota Ian Christie, esso “aspira a un tipo di intrattenimento più completo, quasi una pantomima condensata” (The Magic Sword: Geneaology of an English Trick Film,”Film History”, vol. 16, no. 2, 2004, p. 165). Endorsed by the famous magician John Nevil Maskelyne of London’s Egyptian Hall, this film – like many types of magic – would have appealed both to children and adults. Less a trick film than a féerie ... The film uses several novel and sophisticated trick effects – for example, when a giant ogre reaches over a parapet and the witch rides her broomstick across the sky – to supplement what would have been somewhat more ordinary tricks of substitution, superimposition, and matted double exposure».
