Catalano, Chomón è stato soprattutto uno dei primi inventori dei trucchi e sperimentatore di tecniche del fantastico: non a caso Pathé lo chiama a Parigi fin dai primissimi anni del secolo per contrapporre il suo talento a quello concorrente di Méliès. È nel campo del colore che Chomón ottiene alcuni dei risultati ancora oggi più magici e spettacolari; è lui, inoltre, a colorare a mano i primi film, usando la tecnica del pochoir.
