Homer aveva preso il libro quando Bart era nato per avere qualcosa da leggere al bambino (cosa che poi non ha mai fatto). Lisa propone allora di leggere qualcosa dal libro. Homer inizia a leggere...
a) "Odissea". Homer impersona Ulisse, che consegna un cavallo di Troia al Re. Dopo che le sue truppe sono vittoriose, Ulisse fa arrabbiare gli dei rifiutandosi di fare un sacrificio. Gli dei si vendicano allora di lui facendo cambiare percorso ad Ulisse ed al suo equipaggio: Ulisse non incontra per poco le Sirene (le orribili Patty e Selma), da cui scappa via, poi incontra Circe, che trasforma in maiali gli uomini dell'equipaggio (ovvero Boe, Lenny, Carl e Apu). Dopo che Ulisse mangia tutti, deve attraversare il fiume Stige per tornare a casa. Quando arriva, riabbraccia la moglie Penelope/Marge, "toglie di mezzo" l'immondizia, ovvero i corteggiatori che Penelope aveva negli ultimi 20 anni di assenza... e poi va al bar da Boe!
b) "Giovanna d'Arco". Lisa è Giovanna nella rilettura del racconto di Giovanna d'Arco. Giovanna, chiamata da Dio, guida l'esercito francese alla vittoria contro gli Inglesi, e ci riesce ma viene catturata da Willy e portata in un tribunale degli Inglesi. Giovanna viene giudicata colpevole e sta per venire arsa al rogo, quando Marge, che non ama le conclusioni tragiche, cambia un po' il finale della storia in modo che Giovanna sopravviva.
c) "Amleto". Bart è Amleto e suo padre Homer gli chiede di vendicare la sua morte. Lo zio Claudio (impersonato da Boe) ha ucciso Homer mettendogli del veleno in un orecchio, per poi sposare la regina (Marge) ed impadronirsi del regno. Grazie ad una rappresentazione teatrale di Krusty, Amleto scopre il tradimento del re e va a vendicare la morte di suo padre. Quando Amleto uccide però l'uomo sbagliato (Winchester), deve duellare con suo figlio Laerte (Ralph Winchester). Quando Laerte per stupidità si uccide, Amleto uccide lo zio Claudio, poi anche lui per errore si uccide con la spada. Piuttosto che ripulire tutto, anche la regina si uccide. Tutti sono morti.
Bart non riesce a credere quanto sia noiosa l'ultima storia, ma Homer gli ricorda che la storia è diventata anche un grande film... Ghostbusters. La famiglia balla mentre il tema musicale del film si sente in sottofondo».

The first tale chronicles Homer as Odysseus and the battle of Troy. Ned is the King of Troy and Homer brings the Trojan Horse into the castle and slaughters the lot of them. But on his return home, he angers the gods and they send him off course where he encounters the sirens (Selma and Patty) as well as a trip through Hades and an encounter with a Cyclops. He finally makes it home to his wife Penelope (Marge). The second tale follows Lisa as Joan of Arc as she attempts to lead the French over the English in the Hundred Years War. Although laughed at first, Joan (Lisa) valiantly leads the French army to victory after victory. But when she's caught by the English - she's brought to trial and burned at the stake for witchcraft. The final tale follows the story of Hamlet (Bart). Hamlet's uncle Claudius (Moe) kills his father (Homer) and marries his mother (Marge). When Hamlet has a play put on to make Claudius feel guilty, Claudius realizes that Hamlet knows what he did and tries to kill him as well. When Hamlet tries to kill Claudius, he kills Polonius (Chief Wiggam) accidentally and causes Laertes (Ralph) to avenge his father's death against Hamlet. Hamlet winds up killing both Laertes and Claudius and the kingdom is returned to its rightful state».
