Trama e commenti: vampiri.net - exxagon.it: «Terzo capitolo della tetralogia vampiresca che vede protagonista Radu, il succhiasangue brutto e cattivo figlio di una strega e di Re Vladislas, in quel di Bucarest. La storia prende le mosse direttamente dal termine del secondo capitolo, quindi non vedere la serie secondo l'ordine dovuto potrebbe essere un problema. In ogni caso in Bloodlust si assiste ad una sorta di "la bella e la bestia" sui generis, con un Radu bestialmente innamorato della bella Michelle, sempre e comunque brutto e crudele ma pronto a scagliarsi sulla crudele madre per difendere l'amata, e Michelle eroina vampirizzata che lotta contro la sua stessa natura, di sicuro qui più a suo agio con i canini appuntiti di quanto fosse nel capitolo precedente. La bella e la bestia sì, ma niente lieto fine per i vampiri messi alle strette dagli umani il cui compito è quello di sottrarre Michelle dalle grinfie di Radu. Dalla storia di de Beaumont vengono prese altre situazioni: la preghiera di Michelle a Radu per concederle di vedere la sorella un'ultima volta, il placet a malincuore di Radu che così cerca di dimostrare il suo amore, le pessime conseguenze del desiderio concesso. Nonostante la regia di Nicolau rimanga piatta e il prodotto low budget riveli a più riprese la sua natura direct-to-video, la caratterizzazione emotiva dei protagonisti è certamente superiore a ciò che si era visto nei due episodi precedenti. L'attore Hove, ancora nei panni di Radu, sembra ormai del tutto a suo agio nella parte e solo nella versione originale del film si può beneficiare della sua voce profonda e sinistra, tagliata da qualche graffio romantico. L'attrice Denis Duff, che nel film precedente sembrava essere stata un rimpiazzo sbagliato a coprire l'assenza di Laura Tate, risalta sia esteticamente che a livello recitativo. Rimane il problema di una produzione poveristica che gira solo per il beneficio di coloro che bazzicano i cestoni scontatissimi da centro commerciale; di fatto Bloodlust non ha nulla da dire di nuovo rispetto alle dinamiche vampiro-viventi e anche il finale splatter, con Radu che vola giù dal castello, s'impala, si carbonizza e si rigenera nella forma di diavoletti mossi in stop-motion (SFX malfatto) è il solito mezzuccio per gettare i semi dell'ennesimo sequel che vedrà protagonista Radu. è l'ultimo film prodotto per questa serie dalla Full Moon di Charles Band, il quarto capitolo sarà un produzione rumena che la Full Moon si limiterà a distribuire».

The series ran from 1991 to 1998, and followed the exploits of vampire Radu Vladislas, portrayed continually by Anders Hove, and his efforts to turn Michelle Morgan into his fledgling. A spin-off film was released in 1997, which featured characters that would go on to appear in the final installment of the film series. Ted Nicolaou directed each of the five films, which included the spin-off; he also wrote the scripts for the sequels and spin-off. The series was shot on-location in Romania, utilizing stop-motion techniques to achieve the look the director wanted for the series' subspecies creatures. Picking up where Subspecies II leaves off, Bloodlust: Subspecies III (1994) finds Michelle deep in the catacombs with Radu's mother, who brings her son back from the dead with Michelle's blood and the enchanted dagger that killed him; Radu, his mother, and Michelle return to Castle Vladislas. Michelle promises to obey Radu if he teaches her everything that he knows. Radu takes Michelle out hunting so she can enhance her powers, while Mel contacts a former operative of the CIA for help. While trying to rescue Michelle, Radu's mother quickly kills Mel's CIA friend, and knocks Mel unconscious. In an effort to get Michelle to stay with him forever, Radu kills his mother when she attacks Michelle. Becky arrives to save Michelle, but before everyone leaves, Michelle takes a gun, containing silver bullets, from Becky and shoots Radu. The rising sun slows Michelle, so she is placed inside a body bag that was brought along; the delay allows Radu time to catch up to the group. Wanting the Bloodstone, which was taken by Michelle, Radu attempts to barter the group's lives in exchange for it. Becky throws it over the roof's edge, and when Radu attempts to follow it he is engulfed in the rays of the Sun. Radu's body bursts into flames and falls from the castle wall. Becky and the group make it to their car and drive off. Radu's burning corpse is left smoldering and impaled on tree brances, with his burning blood dropping to the ground; the flames go out and the blood morphs into new subspecies».
