La madre, donna saggia, comprensiva e forte quanto una regina, gli risponde: "un bambino che sa parlare nel ventre materno sa nascere da solo" e così è. Kirikou, costantemente interessato al perché delle cose ... viene immediatamente a conoscenza della tristissima situazione in cui versa l'intero villaggio: tutta la popolazione è sotto il giogo della terribile e dispotica Strega Karabà. La malvagia creatura ha ucciso tutti coloro che hanno tentato di porre un freno alle sue perfidie, ha estinto la fonte che dava acqua e quindi vita e pretende tributi in oro da tutte le donne del villaggio. After learning that his parents' village is being threatened by a sorceress with a taste for human flesh, Kirikou leaps into action to save the day, encountering friends and foes along the way, including a monster who can drain waterfalls and lakes with his enormous thirst and a wise man living on a magic mountain.
